How Political Ambition Helps Make A Dream Come True

In 2008, Democratic candidate Barack Obama won the election and was elected as the President of the United States (re-elected in 2012). In the elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, Democrats consolidated a majority.

On November 4, 2014, in the congressional elections, Democrats for the first time since 2008 lost control of both houses of Congress. The reason for the defeat of the Democratic Party, according to several American politicians, was the political course of the current US President Barack Obama. The main target of criticism is Obama’s foreign policy. Problems were the failures of the democratic administration in Libya, Syria, Ukraine, in relations with Russia.

In November 2016 presidential election, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton lost to Republican Donald Trump. Democrats also failed to get the majority of seats in the US Congress.

I am Abigail Wallace, a former press secretary and representative of the Democratic Party, and this is my story.

Working as a Government Resume Writer

Who does not want to occupy one of the top goverment jobs?  Who doesn’t love a good story, one that is easy to read and understand but one that is full of details and intriguing teasers? I sure do, and I have since I was a much younger person. I’d spend my time weaving tales of fantasy or writing about the daily lives of animals I was interested in when I was a kid, and I would do it happily for hours. I never figured I’d put this talent to use as a government resume writer, strong enough to compete with these guys here:

As I got older, my interest in writing developed, and I knew that I wanted to make writing part of my professional future. I just wasn’t sure exactly how. Writing books seemed too daunting for me, and I just liked writing short stories. The publication procedure seemed too long and complicated, and I figured that would just take the joy out of writing for me.

Writing for the pure fun of it and sharing it with others was precisely why I kept up writing as a hobby as an adult. People would laugh or cry at my whimsical or edge-of-your-seat thrillers. I got a kick out of their reactions, and it spurred me on to write more. Since book-writing wasn’t my scene, really, I just put my dream of writing professionally on the shelf.

Then something happened that changed my perspective in a heartbeat.

A good friend of mine needed a resume revamp for a new job she wanted. She knew I was a good writer, and she asked me to take a look at her resume. I wasn’t a professional resume writer (yet), but I was able to restructure her resume and to ask her some probing questions about her past professional experiences I could highlight in the resume to get her application on the top of the pile on employers’ desks.

In the end, my friend landed the job she wanted because her resume got her foot in the door for an interview! That success gave me a new idea: to become a certified, professional resume writer. I could take my writing skills to the next level and put my talent to good use helping people.

You see, I had been floundering for a while, trying to figure out exactly what career I wanted. I tried a few different ones, but they all seemed to be lacking something vital for me: a sense of purpose and giving back. But, after helping my friend with her resume, I landed on what I could do for a living that had a direct positive impact on people’s lives: I became a certified resume writer.

I mean, by just typing up their work experiences on 1 to 2 pieces of paper, I could transform their lives by helping them get the job that they had always dreamed of. That blew my mind.

After a few years of working as a general resume writer, I decided that it was time to zoom in on one specific area of resume writing. I had worked with many clients over the years who needed help with their resumes for federal government jobs, and I had learned a lot about how to best structure this type of resume and what to include to help them be successful.

For example, many federal jobs descriptions stipulate that you have to have experience doing a particular type of task for a certain length of time. It is necessary to demonstrate how a client’s skills and experience match the requirements for the position. So making sure to include the dates someone has worked and the number of hours they worked per week in a job is critical.

Also, including any information on volunteer work and involvement in community organizations is important because those skills learned or used in those roles are directly applicable to federal jobs.

So working as a resume writer for those who want to work for the federal government has become my life’s passion because I know that helping people get their resumes ready for the stringent federal hiring process is a critical component of their landing those positions. I take pride in supporting people’s dreams by using my resume-writing skills on a daily basis.

One loss does not always mean defeat. Although my party lost in the last election, I am glad about the circumstances. After all, now I can do my favorite thing again. I returned to where I started. I returned to my origins.
