		<description>Actually, a number of studies have shown that tort reform would have only a minor effect on the cost of healthcare; in fact, many states that have enacted tort reform have more expensive insurance costs than states that don&#039;t.

In order to really keep costs contained, you have to bend the cost curve. When Japan (I think it was Japan, would have to look it up to be sure) said that they would only pay so much for an MRI, researchers there figured out how to do it for a tenth of what it costs here in the US, and now of course they&#039;re making quite a bit selling those cheaper machines.

Health care is a problem that people have been experimenting with solutions to for the last 150 years, and history shows that there are two solutions that work: either the government pays for healthcare, or you have nonprofit health insurance companies. For-profit health insurance simply doesn&#039;t work.
