This week Congress returns to work after their three week undeserved vacation. So now it’s time for them to dig their heels down and find money to support the tax cuts that Obama and friends want to continue keep in place to help get the vote they need to win this year’s election.

There are many ideas that are being floated around Washington, but the one idea that is being avoided is the one that many Libertarians and Conservatives are calling for for years. It’s the idea of cutting many programs that are not the responsibility of the federal government. It’s gotten to the point that the federal government has funded so many programs that can no longer be funded. The real issue is how many of those programs should not have ever been put in place to begin with (but that’s for another post).

There are many programs that can be dismantled and/or eliminated to lower the cost of running this country. The biggest problem America is facing when talking about the deficit or the debt ceiling is the fact that Washington is spending way too much. Instead they want to play the number game and say they’re going to cut spending over a ten year period. I laymen terms that means they will cut back on future projected spending.

Let’s look at it this way, the federal government spent $3.5 trillion in 2010 and according to the most recent available tax revenue information (2007), only collected $2.4 trillion in taxes (after refunds). Washington is already spending more than it collects. Add on to the fact that there are other programs that politicians want to have funded in the future. Let’s say they “plan” to spend an extra $300 billion each year for the next ten years, in that case they would be spending another three trillion dollars on top of the already $3.5 trillion. So now they say they just “cut” $500 billion dollars. What that really means is that now they expect to spend only an extra $250 billion dollars each year on top of what they are doing already.

The federal government has been doing nothing but growing for the past few decades and on the path they (politicians) are going, it will continue to grow. Don’t be one of the many that fall for the creative accounting practices of our politicians. Wake up and see for yourself that this country is already bankrupt. the only reason we are still operating is because China and other countries are still willing to buy our debt. Once they stop buying our treasury bonds, it will be over for America.

The ONLY way to get the deficit and the debt under control is to reduce current spending. Yes it’s not going to be easy for the American citizen to do it, but the alternative is not a pretty site what-so-ever.

This morning, August 8,2001, before the markets even opened, Rick Santelli was asked about what he thought about all the events since last Friday night when Standard and Poors downgraded the credit rating of the U.S. His response as well as his analogies to the current situation is awesome. If you’ve watch CNBC during the trading day on Wall street, you know Rick Santelli for his reports live on the Chicago Board of Trade, where he is also known for his occasional rants. His rants (in my opinion) are so clear and straight to the point, it’s awesome.

Rick Santelli clearly does not agree, condone or accept the lack of leadership in Washington. I have to agree with him myself since I also share that same view. Obama and all the other politicians (both Republicans and Democrats) in Washington (oops I forgot, they’re on five weeks vacation) have shown no leadership skills during the last few months. What happened in the past week is just part of the results.

From Timothy Geithner telling Congress in April, 2011 that he sees no risk at all to the United States losing it’s “AAA” credit rating, to Obama’s lame speech today, we can see the lack of leadership.

If we, the American voter, don’t stand up and tell Congress and the president to do the job we sent them to Washington to do, we as a nation will lose more than we already have.

Here’s the video to Rick Santelli’s rant this morning. I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

……unless of course it’s comes to the fact of giving themselves raises or going on vacation.

When it comes to anything other than those two issues, Congress and the Administration can not work together. It’s been going on for over three months (actually longer, but I’m just talking the major push of it all) and still to this day the Obama Administration can’t even come up with their own plan. All they want to do is point fingers at the Republicans coming up with “insane” ideas, and not being cooperative.

It’s gotten to the point where the credit rating company, Standard & Poors is looking to downgrade the U.S. rating on the grounds that they (Federal government) are politically divided. In October, S&P said that the U.S. fiscal issues won’t affect anything in three to five years from now. Then in April, they changed their outlook to being a three to one chance that there will be debt issues within two years. Well now, S&P are looking at a 50% chance of a downgrade since Congress and Obama are too divided to really give confidence to the rating company.

Obama and the Democrats in the Senate have said that they will not pass a bill that won’t allow the federal government to raise the debt ceiling. The Republicans in the House have presented a bill, Cut, Cap and Balance, but the left doesn’t like it. Why? Because they didn’t write it. Well, not really, they feel that they will have to raise the debt ceiling again as well as they’re not too happy about cutting programs that have brought them the votes they’ve wanted in the past. They’re also thinking of the election next year.

That’s what this all comes down to when you really think about it. This whole entire debt ceiling fiasco is all political and nothing more. Why else would Obama use his empty threat last week when he said that he couldn’t guarantee if the Social security checks would go out on August 3rd if the debt ceiling wasn’t raised. I feel that was a low-class act for any president to do. When it comes to cutting programs, it’s always the Fire Department, Police Department and Medicare that are used as pawns to get voter support. The good thing is that more than ever, the American voter is engaged and knowledgeable about the federal government and what their duties are and what is going to come first in entitlement programs and other spending programs.

It time for us to realize that these clowns in Washington are not going to do the right thing ever again in their political careers, so let’s make it easier for them by voting ALL of the out of office when their time has come for re-election .

It never ceases to amaze me that certain people label others as a racist when they don’t go along with what they want, especially in politics. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Republicans or the Democrats, they both do it when it suits their needs. It seems that it’s the Democrats turn to do it with Sheila Jackson Lee leading the charge.

On Friday, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tx) insinuated in a very strong manner that some members of Congress are against raising the debt ceiling because President Obama‘s race.

On the House floor this past Friday Jackson Lee is quoted, “I do not understand what I think is the maligning and maliciousness [toward] this president,” said Jackson Lee, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “Why is he different? And in my community, that is the question that we raise. In the minority community that is question that is being raised. Why is this president being treated so disrespectfully? Why has the debt limit been raised 60 times? Why did the leader of the Senate continually talk about his job is to bring the president down to make sure he is unelected?”

She also had the nerve to say that Obama has been targeted like no other president before him. Her comment being, “I am particularly sensitive to the fact that only this president — only this one, only this one — has received the kind of attacks and disagreement and inability to work, only this one,” said Jackson Lee from the House floor.

“Read between the lines,” she continued. “What is different about this president that should put him in a position that he should not receive the same kind of respectful treatment of when it is necessary to raise the debt limit in order to pay our bills, something required by both statute and the 14th amendment?”

“I hope someone will say that what it appears to be is not in fact accurate,” said Lee. “But historically it seems to be nothing more.”

I would like to inform Ms. Jackson lee that we can no longer pay our debt as a notion because of all of the other times that Congress raised the debt ceiling. It has nothing to do with anything else. In 2006 when G.W.Bush wanted to raise the debt ceiling (which was wrong then too in my opinion), the Democrats fought against it. What has changed the minds of the left to want to do it now? Is it because they have the power or are they the ones who are being racist?

On Thursday, GE, General Electric announced that they made plans to purchase 25,000 electric vehicles, namely the Chevy Volt, with nearly half of them to be purchased during this calendar year. The rest will be bought as they (vehicles) are brought to the market. GE is a conglomerate of many other companies and is in the position to make these cars more mainstream. As it is now, General Motors has built 10,000 of these vehicles so far this year, but have only sold roughly 400. With General Electric stepping up to make this commitment, General Motors, feels it will give them the boost they (GM) need.

This news comes out only one day after the City of New York has decided to add seventy electric cars to the NYPD. Mayor Mike Bloomberg made the announcement by saying the Big Apple will lead by example, hoping to entice other urban cities to follow suit.

What I find disturbing about these two press releases is that the two entities that are buying electric vehicles, one is intertwined with the current administration and the other is a government entity. To add to the fact that the manufacturer of the Chevy Volt is the General (Government) Motors a company that took a major bailout of tax payer’s money to keep themselves from going bankrupt. There is a major conflict of interest here in these deals.

As it is General Electric’s Chief Executive Officer is Jeffrey Immelt, The man whom president Obama hand picked to be on the energy commission. This is also the one company that had a ZERO tax liability in 2010. Is it me or does anyone else see a problem with all of this? Immelt is quoted “Wide-scale adoption of electric vehicles will also drive clean energy innovation, strengthen energy security and deliver economic value.” It’s all amazing how this is exactly what the Obama Administration has been pushing since he starting running for president. Too bad green energy is still in it’s infancy and the government has no business footing the bill at this point. The government is not is the business business and should step back and allow the free market to work through the kinks of the industry to really see if it’s profitable and worth the risk.

At this point with regards to electric vehicles, it’s too soon for local governments to invest tax payer money into it before the industry improves the efficiency of its product. Currently these vehicles will only go as far as forty miles on a single charge and then has to be charged for hours before being able to do it again. How is that going to be efficient for the different departments of the city of New York to do it’s job, especially the NYPD? Let’s not even get into the price tag for one of these vehicles. They are nearly double the price of a standard gas powered car that the police are using now. It will take years, if not decades to seen the benefits of these vehicles. Once these vehicles have been improved to go much further than they do now, then I say yes, let’s do it.

*UPDATE*
After writing this article, news came out about the electric car company Green Vehicles closing it’s manufacturing plant after the city of Salinas invested $500,000 into the company with the hopes of creating 70 new jobs and bring in $700,000 annually in taxes.

When I was growing up in New York City in the 70′s and 80′s, I would hear on the news and in school about how Communism was a form of government that restricted individuality, free speech, personal freedom and the held most of their people in poverty, except for the rulers of those countries. The people of Russia and other Communist countries during that period were running out of their countries and made their way to America. During the 1980′s, Russia’s regime had fallen thanks to the work of Ronald Reagan. The evildoers were no longer able to take care of themselves and their economy collapsed as well.

Now it seems that our own President has decided to go down the path of socialism, fascism and or Communism. The people he’s surrounding himself with is a clear indication of that. In the past, we’ve seen the truth come out on Van Jones, the man that Obama hand picked himself to be the Green Job Czar (do you notice that they’re using communist noble titles for these positions). It was learned that Mr. Jones is a communist supporter as well as (what appears to me) a racist. Even though the main stream media stayed away from the stories that were coming out on the internet and reported on FOX, Van Jones resigned after all the controversy was released. My question is, who is Obama going to throw into the position next?

How many more of these unelected, non-approved people in our Republic government feel the same as Van Jones? There are over fourty czars in the current Administration and its not over yet. Most of these positions (if not all), have responsibilities that someone within the government was already accountable for. So why did President Obama need to create these positions? Maybe these were just a few of the 2.5 million jobs he was going to generate. Of course none of these jobs create a product or a service that wasn’t already being done by someone else.

We need to be aware that if we don’t watch what the government is doing, we won’t have the freedom to ever watch them again. The government has always grown in size and hasn’t reduced it’s size since the Reagan Administration.

Today Obama had his fifteenth press conference since he took office thirty months ago. This time he was discussing the debt ceiling and how the politicians can not come to an agreement. If you tuned in to hear anything of substance, then you pretty much wasted your time.

Once again President Obama wanted to play the blame game as well as campaign for his next election. He spoke for roughly 20 minutes on how the debt ceiling needed to be raised and the hurdles which laid in the way from the Republicans. Several times he stated that if the debt ceiling wasn’t raised, America would default on it’s obligations to pay it’s debt. That is partially correct, but not entirely. Never during his speech did he mention cutting spending unless you count the times how the only spending cuts that would be affected are the ones tied to seniors, children and the “less” fortunate.

The biggest game politicians play is striking fear into the American voter. To do that, they need to inform people that the spending cuts that that are available to do are the ones that will affect these three categories of people. Don’t get me wrong, I do care and I feel those people shouldn’t be sacrificed to rein in the spending spree that politicians have been on for the last 20 years.

After Obama finished speaking, he allowed a few questions from the press. During the nearly thirty minutes of questions, only six questions were asked. Why? Because Obama once again went into campaign mode, blaming the “other”side of not doing what needed to be done. Each question was about 20-30 seconds long, but his average answer was seven minutes. One question that was asked, “What contingency plans do you have Mr President if an agreement can not be reached before the deadline.” His answer was short… “We will meet the deadline of August 2nd.”
Another question was asked in regards to a bill towards the minorities in this county finding employment. This time his answer was not short, but very lengthy. He stated off by saying, “I’m not going to talk about the bill.” Then continued with a very long winded answer which was more towards a campaign bullet point than anything a president would say during a press conference. Another big problem we’re having in this country is the lack of a backbone from the main stream media. the other questions that were asked were “easy”, “softball” questions at best. None of the reporters have the “guts” to ask serious straight forward questions to the president. Add to the fact that when the president goes off on a tangent that has nothing to do with the question, the reporters should remind Obama what the question was and ask him to answer it this time around. The president works for us. it’s only right that he answer questions the public want to know.

One comment Obama made really disturbed me. He said, “America’s democracy will only work if people listen to other people.” America was not built on democracy, it was designed to be a republic and nothing more. I spoke about it in a recent post about the difference between Democracy vs Republic governments. I feel president Obama has no intentions of keeping this country free and set by the “rule of the land”.

The only way to save this country by it’s own financial failures is by cutting spending of many programs that are not needed or required to run the federal government. Both the Republican and the Democrat politicians need to look at their district and cut programs without worrying about how it will affect their next election results. We as Americans need to keep a careful eye out on all of them before the next election and clean house no matter what political party they are affiliated with.

I mentioned in an earlier post about how I avoid the main stream media to get my political information. The reason is simple, media outlets like CNN, FOX, MSNBC and all the local channels are told by the government what they can or can not air on their shows. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not being told straight to their faces, it’s being implied. So with that being known, how can anyone trust the information that they offer to us each and every day?

Here is a list of 5 blogs or websites that I refer to to get the information I need to stay aware of Washington’s actions.

1. The Neal Boortz Show
I’m a Libertarian so how could I not have Neal Boortz on the list? His syndicated show is heard on over 200 stations nationwide. Neal tells it like it is. He never tries to “sugar coat” the news to help or hurt any political party (including the Libertarian party).

2. The Jerry Doyle Show
Jerry Doyle, an actor turned politician turned radio host. I’ve been listening to him for years and love the way he tells a story. He has no problem pointing out mistakes of any politician. His guest are outstanding with great information you won’t hear on any other radio or TV station.

3). Memeorandum
Memeorandum is a political website directory. The site pulls articles from all over the internet that deal with politics. It doesn’t matter on which side of the aisle the news is from, it’s just the news that being released currently from other reputative websites and blogs.

4). No Quarter
No quarter is a left-leaning blog operated by Larry Johnson. His information is good, his writing style a well done and why not throw a democrat into the list? If you really want to stay informed, you have to listen to both sides and the cream in the middle.

5). The People’s Cube
If you’re going to stay on top of all the political news, you need to have a release value or you’ll find yourself on a roof top with a rifle. The people’s cube is a political satire website that pokes fun at the most recent news going on at the time. Whoever writes for this website definitely has a slightly twisted mind, which is perfectly fine with me.

So if you’re going to avoid the main stream media like I do, you still need to stay informed of current events around Washington. Just make sure you find sites that have some authority to them. There are new websites and blogs popping up everyday and if you’re not careful you may fall for some hack site spreading lies and untruths.
Out of these sites that I’ve listed here, none of them are listed with Google with anything lower than a page rank of “5″. Pages are ranked by Google on a scale of one to ten. Most pages I look at that are posted on Facebook are either not ranked at all or a page rank of “1″. I don’t take information from low-ranking (-3) sites very seriously and so should you.

Nearly three months ago, President Obama invaded Libya with the consent of the United Nations and NATO, but without Congressional approval. According to the U.S. Constitution the president has the authority to take military actions he sees fit, but only for sixty days along with thirty days for withdrawal. After that he must have Congressional approval to continued action in any foreign conflict.

The problem is that the ninetieth day of the Libyan conflict is this Sunday, June 19th, 2011 and no action has been taken to have the troops in Libya home in the next three days. Rep. John Boehner, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, in a meeting with Obama, urged him to explain the legal issues of the continued military actions. The deadline for Obama’s response is Friday.

Now we have ten Congressman filing a law suit against the president for taking military action in Libya without Congress approval. The suit states that Obama bypassed the proper channels to take this step of going into Libya. The plaintiffs are Democratic Reps. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, John Conyers of Michigan and Michael Capuano of Massachusetts and Republican Reps. Walter Jones and Howard Coble of North Carolina, Tim Johnson and Dan Burton of Indiana, Jimmy Duncan of Tennessee, Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland and Ron Paul of Texas.

What annoys me about the whole situation is 1) Obama had no reason to send troops into Libya since there was no security threat to our country. 2) Congress is wasting time with this law suit and involving judges to take action when in fact they (Congress) hold the power to control funding of such actions. Instead of this latest step by Congress, they should be writing legislation to de-fund the military action to bring our troops home.

This past Monday, the House voted to prohibit any money for the Libya conflict, backing an amendment barring the use of any funds in contravention of the War Powers Act. The vote was passed 248-163 on a spending bill that still needs to be reconciled with the Senate. So why hasn’t the Senate done anything in the past three days? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the Senate is controlled by the Democrats and they’re just helping out the fellow Democrat in the White House. At the same time Sen. John Kerry stated that there will be a delay in a meeting to write a resolution so it would allow lawmakers time to review the White House report on the Libya conflict. A report that Congress has been asking for from the White House for weeks, and they are still dragging their feet on submitting it. Kerry also stated the possibility of some action on a resolution next week. “We just want everybody to see the information and see how it impacts their thinking,” Kerry said. Well guess what Senator, next week is after the deadline of ninety days the president was to remove the troops. What the hell were you thinking?

To add to the matter, Sen. McCain of Arizona is warning Republicans against taking any steps that would send a positive signal to Qaddafi. “I caution my friends, both here in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, that we don’t want to do anything or pass legislation which would encourage Qaddafi to remain in power,” McCain told reporters, even though there are continued signs that Qaddafi’s hold is deteriorating including defection from high level members within his regime. “I would say to my Republican friends: If this were a Republican president, would you be trying to impose these same conditions?” McCain said.

This is a clear case of following the money. There is no reason for us to be involved with having a military presence in Libya. Who is going to benefit from this action? I haven’t looked deep enough into it to really know, but then again since I’m not connected to anyone in Washington or the media, I doubt I’ll ever get to the bottom of it. I do know that Libya has two hundred miles of pristine beach front on the Mediterranean Sea where the climate is spectacular.

We saw with the involvement of U.S. troops in Iraq how Halliburton made a killing in being the private company to get the contract for the oil fields. So who is going to “win” in Libya? We need to see how this will play out since it took a while before we saw how Dick Cheney’s involvement with Halliburton helped the company make billions of dollars from President G.W. Bush’s actions. The one difference between Bush’s actions compared to Obama is that at least Bush received Congressional approval before going into Iraq. Say what you want about G.W. Bush, but at least he followed the necessary steps to do what he did. I’m not surprise by Obama’s decision to go to an international entity to hide behind for something he knew we had no right to be involved in.

Congress has not declared war with any country since WWII. Even though we’ve been in quite a few since. Presidents have taken some sort of military action throughout the world and Obama is no different than any other president even though he said during his campaign that there would be transparency in his Administration. He said he was going to do things differently. Well he has, by going into a military action without Congressional approval and according to the Constitution, that is an impeachable offense. So why isn’t Congress just taken action by either de-funding the Libya conflict or impeaching the president? Again like I said before…FOLLOW THE MONEY.

America’s economy is in dire need of an overhaul. The current situation is in a major tailspin into the abyss. The ticking time bomb of America’s economy is going to happen sooner than the American people are even aware of.

After all that Obama has done to “save the economy” from it’s recession, it hasn’t worked. Besides, why would it? Everything he has done has been the opposite of Reaganomics. The increase in the deficit is the most than any other president has done and if you were to combine the spending of all the past presidents, Obama has them beat. Programs that have been supported for by the stimulus are nothing more than wasteful spending that won’t do anything for growing jobs and bringing us out of this recession.

Of course some voters, especially liberal and progressive Democrats, think this is what needs to be done to save the country. They don’t seem to realise that more wasteful spending is not the answer!

As for ideas that will save this economy and help launch us ahead by leaps and bounds, Peter Ferrara has written a book that details the issues we are experiencing now because of the policies implemented by past and present administrations. In his book “America’s Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb”, Peter shows us ways to turn the economy around in a short period of time. He talks about how a normal recession lasts about ten months, while this current one has been going on for forty-one months and how the situation can not be changed while on this current course.

In this book, he outlines topics such as how the fuse was lit to start this economic mess, how Obamacare will do nothing but tax us to death, how Congress has destroyed the American dream of owning a home and discusses our current financial crisis. Mr. Ferrara doesn’t just inform us of the crisis we’re in, he also shows us how to turn it around. He talks about how social security has been a tool for politician for decades to control the masses and to assure their re-election. Peter’s ideas to reform the system are sound without leaving anyone out in the cold. Outlining personal savings accounts funded by the private sector will benefit all in the system no matter the current age. His ideas and insight to repairing this country are outstanding. I enjoyed the book and understand his ideas. I know the book will get you thinking about issues you never thought about before.

It’s a must read book for all those who are concerned with their financial future.
