US Citizens, Libertarianism is, in essence, personal freedom and minimization of the state. Many would say that Obama‘s current administration conflicts with this view. The idea is that the state is a burden to the economy – a source of bureaucracy. Obama’s administration seems to contradict these views. One big example of this, certainly, is his health care reform plan. But many questions remain: is “reducing” the state simply abolishing it? Should the state be a thin layer, or completely eliminated? A state without any intervention is no state. So why not, instead of destroying the state completely, let it administrate the basics?

A state shouldn’t care only about its economy. The first thing a “true”, “free” state should think of is, certainly, its citizens. Some people would cry foul here: “why should we be burdened by people that don’t want to work? Let them pay their own bills!” But this is not what libertarianism is about. True libertarianism, and therefore freedom, is not violating the US constitution and invading people’s privacies needlessly. It’s about not enslaving other countries, and spending useless amounts of money with an imaginary war. So, if the state isn’t bad, is it good in every way? Should we let it take care of our lives?

No.

Our State is made by US, Citizens. Obama’s government is certainly not perfect. One example is his making of bold claims. He said he would end the war, for example. He didn’t. He said he would cut the government’s wasteful spending. Did he? Politicians have too many ties, and they should always be taken with a grain of salt. There is a chance that Obama’s government will turn tyrannical. If that happens, it is up to us to claim back our freedom. So, as a consequence, I do not think Obama’s government is evil. It is here to bring many taboos to the spotlight. As we discussed, health is one of them, but economic and education inequality are also taboos in the American society. My point of view about all this? I believe freedom is knowing you can count on your State, and that it actually supports you into times of trouble – not some sort of façade that hides a political agenda made to benefit only a rich minority. I expect our politicians to spend our resources wisely, and I truly think the US hasn’t been doing this for a long time – it’s just that we’re only starting to see this now.

With all the talk about getting the health care bill passed last year and Nancy Pelosi’s quote of “we have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it.”, we’re finding out more and more about what’s in it and it’s a complete mess of a bill.

The latest to come out about the bill is the news of nearly all health insurance plans may soon be required to offer women patients free coverage of prescription birth control, breast-pump rentals, counseling for domestic violence, and annual wellness exams and HIV tests. In the health care bill that was passed last year, the law directs the Obama Administration to draw up a list of preventive services for women that will require all new health plans will cover without any deductibles or even co-payments. All this is by the year long review requested by Kathleen Sebilius, Health and Human Services Secretary.

In a statement, Sebelius praised the committee’s work as “historic” and “based on science and existing literature.” she continued, “We are reviewing the report closely and will release the department’s recommendations … very soon.”

While I believe in personal freedoms, I also believe in personal responsibility. If someone wants to be sexually active while not trying to get pregnant, it’s is their responsibility to pony up for the expenses for that activity. How is it that the federal government feels that it has the right to force private industries to pay the costs for the decision for someone else? As we seen in the past, this decision by the Obama Administration will only affect other people who pay for health care and if the federal government is going to subsidize the program. Why is it the responsibility for the American tax payer to foot the bill?

It’s estimated that 41 million Americans are in “new” plans that these rules will apply, along with 98 million other people are “grandfathered” in policies exempt from the rules. Those “grandfathered” will lose that status if they make a host of changes to their coverage and/or payment policies. It’s expected that the number will increase to nearly 47 million more American will be under the new rules. Insurers will need to follow the new guidelines at the start of the next plan year within one year after Sebelius issues them.

As we see as time goes on and we have the opportunity to dissect the bill, we see the federal government’s purpose is to control the industry as they have done to so many other ones (auto, banking, etc.). Either way you look at it, there is no reason for the federal government to be involved in any industry no less the medical industry.

Since the the inception of the Board of Education in 1980, the school system has taken more control of what our children learn without any regard to the parents. The whole concept of the Board of Education is to increase the federal government involvement and control of the people.

On Wednesday July 12, 2011, Governor Jerry brown of California has increase the powers of the Board of Education in his state by signing a bill, (SB48) making California the first state in the nation to add lessons about gays and lesbians to social studies classes in public schools. The bill requires public schools to add to their social studies curriculum, contributions of people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. A curriculum which will be adopted for the 2013-2014 school year. Brown signed the bill passed last week by the Democratic-majority Legislature. The bill basically passed on a party-line vote.

“History should be honest,” the governor said. “This bill revises existing laws that prohibit discrimination in education and ensures that the important contributions of Americans from all backgrounds and walks of life are included in our history books.”
How is it that you would need to revise existing laws that already cover the original intent? While I believe in personal freedom and tolerance towards all people. this quote speaks to me as saying that a person’s sexual preference is now a factor. No matter who the person is, black, white, Jewish, Muslim, gay or straight, if they contributed to history, they should be acknowledged.

The Board of Education has been increasing it’s control over what our children learn and by what standard they will be held to. From President Carter creating the Department to George W. Bush signing the “No Child Left Behind Act”, it’s all been about control and spending more money in a program that hasn’t improve the quality of education in this county.

State Senator Mark Leno, a San Fransisco Democrat who is also the author of the bill, praises the signing of this bill as a step towards teaching tolerance. Supporters feel that this bill will teach students to be more accepting of lesbians and gays since there has been so much bullying towards homosexuals. Leno is quoted saying, “Today we are making history in California by ensuring that our textbooks and instructional materials no longer exclude the contributions of LGBT Americans”.

Since when have homosexuals been excluded? Is Leno saying that the LGBT community was being excluded from history? Again, if a person contributed to history, they should not be excluded whatsoever. And if homosexuals were being excluded, by whom were they excluded by?

Our school system has no Constitutional right in the first place to be controlled by the federal government, even if the Democrats feel it falls under the commerce clause. Since the creation of this department, Conservatives have been trying to abolish it. As a Libertarian, I feel it’s an invasion of our personal freedoms since it gives the federal government too much power.

The Department’s mission is: to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.
The only thing the department has accomplished is ensuring equal access since even illegal immigrants are entitled to a good education. But that’s a whole other post.

Ask Americans what kind of government we have here and many will get the answer wrong. America is being misguided with what our founding fathers created here in America. When Benjamin Franklin exited the Constitutional Convention, A woman asked him, “Sir, what have you given us?”. Franklin’s reply was…”A republic Ma’am, if you can keep it.”

Our great country was built on the idea of a representative republic as the basis of our government, not a democracy. A republic is a form of government that in essence is ruled by laws, not by a person or people. There are five forms of government. Monarchy, Oligarchy, Democracy, Republic and Anarchy. Of course the last one is actually the absence of government, lawlessness, The first being Monarchy is a country ruled by one, like a king or some form of ruler. As you read through the list, you will see less government involvement. An Oligarchy is ruled by a group, sort of what the supposed Bilderberg Group is to be. Democracy is a country ruled by many, majority rules. The Republic form of government is ruled by laws. The Greeks once said, “without laws, there is no freedom”.

So how come so many Americans get it wrong when asked? I can’t answer that question. All I can say is that we’ve been lied to by the political leaders of this country.

A democracy has never lasted for long periods of time, as we’ve seen throughout history. Eventually the majority rule mentality collapses the system. Democracy is not a stable form of government, instead it’s a gradual transition from a republic (limited government) to a unlimited rule of an oligarchy, a tyranny of the elite.

As American, we are responsible for our own freedom and to hold on to our freedoms we must pull in the reins of the current out of control powers of the federal government. The essence of freedom is the proper limitation of government. The Constitution was written to protect the people from the federal government over stepping their boundaries. The Constitution doesn’t give the federal government it’s power, it limits it.

Written by John Balker:

The rights of individuals have been put in the back burner in today’s political world. For example, to prevent terrorism, the government has imposed security measures and enforced racial profiling on individuals. I have traveled on many domestic and international flights in the past few years and have been subject to such security measures.

In fact, I was awaiting the arrival of a family member from a Northwest flight coming in from Amsterdam (a couple days after Christmas) when the irrational restrictions on individual freedoms became ever so obvious. A Nigerian man who felt sick in the plane and used the restroom multiple times was detained because a few days earlier another Nigerian mad tried to set off an explosive on the same flight heading into Detroit. The poor man just felt ill, and the government poured in Department of Homeland Security employees, sniffing dogs, police and ambulances. What a waste of resources and a horrible inconvenience! I waited at the airport for nearly five hours. I would expect the government to be able to handle security threat in ways that do not impose so severely on individual freedoms in this day and age.

In today’s political atmosphere, issues besides terrorism, including government bailouts and universal health care, are also infringing upon the rights of individuals. The U.S. government has swept into the everyday lives of Americans in a big way. Americans facing foreclosure are being offered government assistance and extra money for energy efficient utilities. Instead of encouraging an independent populous, the government at federal, state and local levels, is encouraging dependency.

Government bailout of the auto companies in Detroit is an example of exactly this. Now, Detroiters are turning to the government for more money to improve railways to Chicago and increase jobs. The government should promote the rights and abilities of individuals to improve their lives and those of their community. Universal health care is another bill being pushed by today’s Democrats to involve government to control an essential part of people’s existence i.e. their health care needs.

An individual deserves the right to decide their own health care plans. A competitive, privatized health care industry with few governmental regulations is the way to go. When it comes to government involvement, less is always better. Unfortunately, individuals freedoms are slowly disappearing and the United States is becoming more like Communist China by the day.

America’s Third Largest Party

The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest and fastest growing political party. Libertarians engage in a variety of projects, working for everyone’s liberty on every issue.

The Libertarian Party was created in December of 1971 by people who realized that the politicians had strayed from America’s original libertarian foundation, with disastrous results. Their vision was the same as that of America’s founders — a world where individuals are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways, a world of peace, harmony, opportunity, and abundance.

Libertarians are practical; we know we can’t make the world perfect. But, it can be better. Libertarians will keep working to create a better, freer society for everyone. As William Allen White said: “Liberty is the only thing you cannot have unless you are willing to give it to others.”

“Libertarians believe the answer to America’s political problems is the same commitment to freedom that earned America its greatness: a free-market economy and the abundance and prosperity it brings; a dedication to civil liberties and personal freedom that marks this country above all others; and a foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade as prescribed by America’s founders.”

Libertarians believe in the American heritage of liberty, enterprise, and personal responsibility. Libertarians recognize the responsibility we all share to preserve this precious heritage for our children and grandchildren.

Libertarians believe that being free and independent is a great way to live. We want a system which encourages all people to choose what they want from life; that lets them live, love, work, play, and dream their own way.

The Libertarian way is a caring, people-centered approach to politics. We believe each individual is unique. We want a system which respects the individual and encourages us to discover the best within ourselves and develop our full potential.

The Libertarian way is a logically consistent approach to politics based on the moral principle of self-ownership. Each individual has the right to control his or her own body, action, speech, and property. Government’s only role is to help individuals defend themselves from force and fraud.

The Libertarian Party is for all who don’t want to push other people around and don’t want to be pushed around themselves. Live and let live is the Libertarian way.

All over the political websites, news broadcast and talk radio stations, you hear about how the Democrats and the Republicans are not doing right by the American people. It’s gotten to the point where the politicians in Washington are only looking out for the people that helped finance their way into the position they hold.

There are a lot of third parties in this country, but none really have the ability to rise up politically and make a difference like the Libertarian party. It is the only political organization which respects you as a unique and competent individual.

The creation of this country was based on the ideas that are more in line with the Libertarian way than any other party. It’s approach is more of a logical consistent one toward politics based on a moral principle of self ownership. We believe in a smaller government. The government’s role in our lives should be to defend our freedom from force or fraud. Free expression of speech, religion (or lack of), the right to control one self’s body, action and property.

A free-market economy, with the abundance and prosperity it can bring is what the Libertarian party wants for this country just as our fore fathers wanted over two hundred years ago. Civil liberties and personal freedom that has puts this country above all others; and a foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade as prescribed by America’s founders.

It’s time to start looking at the third largest political party in this country. Soon to be the party of choice above all the others out there. There is no other party that will care about your freedoms and the rewards of your hard work than the Libertarian party.
