Our Libertarian shirt helps make everyone around you feel at ease and pushes the absolutely wonderful idea that everyone has the right to do what they want and be who they want to be as long as those decisions don’t infringe on the freedoms of anyone else. These ideas, along with this shirt, specifically aid in supporting all the hundreds of thousands of people all accross the globe that are being persecuted because their lifestyles differ from what their society deems ‘morally acce (more…)
US Citizens, Libertarianism is, in essence, personal freedom and minimization of the state. Many would say that Obama‘s current administration conflicts with this view. The idea is that the state is a burden to the economy – a source of bureaucracy. Obama’s administration seems to contradict these views. One big example of this, certainly, is his health care reform plan. But many questions remain: is “reducing” the state simply abolishing it? Should the state be a thin layer, or completely eliminated? A state without any intervention is no state. So why not, instead of destroying the state completely, let it administrate the basics?
A state shouldn’t care only about its economy. The first thing a “true”, “free” state should think of is, certainly, its citizens. Some people would cry foul here: “why should we be burdened by people that don’t want to work? Let them pay their own bills!” But this is not what libertarianism is about. True libertarianism, and therefore freedom, is not violating the US constitution and invading people’s privacies needlessly. It’s about not enslaving other countries, and spending useless amounts of money with an imaginary war. So, if the state isn’t bad, is it good in every way? Should we let it take care of our lives?
Our State is made by US, Citizens. Obama’s government is certainly not perfect. One example is his making of bold claims. He said he would end the war, for example. He didn’t. He said he would cut the government’s wasteful spending. Did he? Politicians have too many ties, and they should always be taken with a grain of salt. There is a chance that Obama’s government will turn tyrannical. If that happens, it is up to us to claim back our freedom. So, as a consequence, I do not think Obama’s government is evil. It is here to bring many taboos to the spotlight. As we discussed, health is one of them, but economic and education inequality are also taboos in the American society. My point of view about all this? I believe freedom is knowing you can count on your State, and that it actually supports you into times of trouble – not some sort of façade that hides a political agenda made to benefit only a rich minority. I expect our politicians to spend our resources wisely, and I truly think the US hasn’t been doing this for a long time – it’s just that we’re only starting to see this now.
When it comes to political programs and news outlets, there seems to be only two sides of the political spectrum that most people listen to, Conservative or Liberal/progressive. In my opinion, each of them are there just to promote “their” agenda. When in fact these news programs should be there for the people, not the politician. That is why I listen to a wide range of programs and news outlets. either Left or right they do offer some good information, but you are still left to weed through the “spin of the news to really know what’s going on. Listening to each side I hear both sides of the issue and from that, I’m able to get a good idea of what the “truth” is.
I also get much of my information from the internet (like so many others are doing now). The reason for that is because of all the party promoting that is going on elsewhere. Here is a list of the third side of the story. Like “they” say… there are three sides to a story, his, her’s and the truth. I found out over the years that Libertarian website, news program and talk radio shows are there for the people. We have the responsibility to find out what is going on without all the hoopla and these outlets are one way to get it.
The first one is a radio show. Neal Boortz is a Libertarian and talks about the issues that affect us the most. Yes, he is very opinionated, but that’s OK with me since I am too. His show is on throughout the country at different times, five days a week. Even with his opinions, I’m able to get the truth of the issue and a great look to how things can be done to improve this country.
Next is John Stossel, another Libertarian who many remember from his days on 20/20 with his segment of “Give Me A Break”. He is now on FOX Business News, which is a conservative/Republican minded network, but his views are his own. He has said that FOX does allow him to be open with his affiliation with the Libertarian party and he has no problem saying it.
Just because I listed The Cato Institute third does not mean that it isn’t the most important site to keep in tuned with. The Cato Institute is the leader of the news and information for the free market and the Libertarian views. It’s website offers so much that it hard to list it all in just one paragraph. See for yourself and find out what other outlets don’t tell you.
A great Libertarian website/radio show is the 1787 Network. 1787 Network was founded by Alexander Snitker, Libertarian Senate candidate for Florida 2010 and Adrian Wyllie, Chairman for the Libertarian Party of Florida. These guys are not only patriots, but they also served in protecting our freedom. Their weekly radio show airs on Friday at 9am-11am where they talk about the major issues that affect our liberties and freedom.
There are so many others that I will share with you in future posts, but these are the ones I recommend to start with if you’re looking for a different prospective on today’s issues.
Libertarianism is both a philosophy and a political view. The key concepts defining Libertarianism are:
Individual Rights as inherent to human beings, not granted by government
A Spontaneous Order through which people conduct their daily interactions and through which society is organized independent of central (government) direction
The Rule of Law which dictates that everyone is free to do as they please so long as they do not infringe upon the rights of others
A divided and Limited Government, checked by written constitution
Free Markets in which price and exchange is agreed upon mutually by individuals
Virtue of Production whereby the productive labor of the individual and any translation of that labor into earnings belongs, by right, to the individual who should not have to sacrifice those earnings to taxes
Peace which has, throughout history, most commonly been disrupted by the interests of the ruling class or centralized government.
