Is Dissent Still Patriotic?

Posted by Joanne On January - 21 - 2009

Interesting article today from David Harsanyi of The Denver Post. In it he says;

“Some of you must still believe that politicians are meant to serve rather than be worshiped. Is there anyone who still believes the Constitution was created to ensure each citizen liberty and the ability to pursue happiness rather than a guarantee of happiness — and a retirement fund, health care, a job, an education, a house … ?”

Yes Dave….we are here and we are called Libertarians. :)

“Liberals rightly recoil at the prospect of conservatives dictating which morals they should live by. Obama, though, has spent the past year preaching his own brand of morality — with a list of demands.”

As neither a liberal nor a conservative (my stance depends on the issue at hand), I also do not want anyone, no matter what they call themselves dictating how I should live.

“Everyone, you see, “must” sacrifice. Michelle Obama recently explained, “Barack Obama will require you to work. . . . Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.”

The whole quote was;
“Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed”.

I’m so relieved that Obama is going to “require people to work”. I’m tired of being part of the group that does all the work, while others are lazy and expect others to do their share. I come across people all the time in my daily life, that need to “push themselves to be better”. You know who I’m talking about…..the ones who sit back with their hand, and their sense of entitlement out. While the rest of us create opportunities for ourselves and others, give back to those who need it and work to raise awareness about issues that are important to us. So to those people, I say, it’ll be a nice change for the rest of us when Obama “never allows you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed”.

“To require such fealty to power in the name of patriotism was once repugnant to the left. Now, with the right guy in charge, apparently it can once again be embraced.

Change, indeed.”

Obama Uses The White House Website To Slam Bush

Posted by Joanne On January - 20 - 2009

Obama’s new White House website takes a parting shot at Bush. Very classy Obama…you’re off  to an impressive start. I expected more tact and grace from you after being President for only a few hours. Well, what can you expect…he’s a politician…just like all the others. So much for moving forward, common good and all that crap. *yawn*

President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur.

President Obama swiftly responded to Hurricane Katrina. Citing the Bush Administration’s “unconscionable ineptitude” in responding to Hurricane Katrina, then-Senator Obama introduced legislation requiring disaster planners to take into account the specific needs of low-income hurricane victims. Obama visited thousands of Hurricane survivors in the Houston Convention Center and later took three more trips to the region. He worked with members of the Congressional Black Caucus to introduce legislation to address the immediate income, employment, business, and housing needs of Gulf Coast communities.

I’m So Tired Of All This Obamania

Posted by Joanne On January - 19 - 2009

It’s enough to make me want to vomit actually. I don’t agree with elevating a President to this superstar status.I looked at pictures of people getting ready for the inauguration tomorrow and there were TONS of people selling Obama merchandise…like it’s a rock concert or something. How is anybody supposed to take this man seriously?

I am looking forward to all this hoopla being over and we can FINALLY see what his plans are. Not what he SAYS he wants to do, not what he TALKS about doing, not what he CLAIMS to have done…but what he ACTUALLY does. I, for one, will be watching him closely over the next four years and I hope my gut instinct about him is wrong.

William J. Lynn III Named As Deputy Secretary Of Defense

Posted by Billy On January - 9 - 2009

Barack Hussein Obama has gone ahead and appointed William J. Lynn III to be Deputy Secretary of Defense. A man who has served as under secretary of defense and comptroller in the Clinton Administration as well as the Pentagon’s CFO (chief Financial Officer).

Lynn has the experience to do the job that he was appointed to, but my problem is that William Lynn III is presently the Senior Vice President of Raytheon Co.

Why is that a problem? The problem is that Raytheon has defense contracts with the United States. In my opinion, that makes it a conflict of interests. How can this be allowed that Obama can go ahead and appoint a person who might not hold the American taxpayer’s interest as his main concern.

How can you expect a man to do the right thing with the protection of the American people when he also has responsibilities to the company that he works for to make money? You can’t. He makes his bonuses by the amount of money the company makes. If he has to choose between protecting this country the best way possible or making his multi-million dollar bonus, how can you expect him to put himself second?

If he wants to take the position of Deputy Secretary of Defense, he must resign from his position at Raytheon Co. He is human and is bound to make mistakes, but to avoid a defense issue he must do the right thing first, which is to leave Raytheon and all his responsibilities to the company

Another kick in the pants is that the Democrats had a problem with Dick Cheney getting elected to office while he still had interests in Halliburton, but have not problem of William J. Lynn III being given the position. The American people didn’t get the right to vote for this man to be put into this office. I know that it’s two different position, but isn’t the President’s job to serve this country? Or is it his duty to go ahead and give positions to people who helped get him into office?

Just as a side note, Goldman Sachs has upgraded the the stock of Raytheon to a buy from a hold. What does that tell you?

I don’t know what’s to come of this, but I will say that I will be keeping an eye on it and posting about here on this blog.
